Now Open: The Train Station Pub Renovation

The epitome of a great restaurant experience is a sum of many smaller things. Great food & drink, welcoming staff, and a comfortable atmosphere can take an evening out or special occasion from good to extraordinary.

We’ve been working with our friends Dave & Rhonda and partners of The Station Hospitality Group to elevate the customer experience at the Train Station Pub, and we wanted to share a little about these lovely people and their cool space – plus show off our work.

The Project

This iconic Kelowna building originally welcomed arrivals to the Kelowna starting in 1926, when it was the city’s train station. Passenger service was discontinued in 1967 and freight continued for several years, with the City of Kelowna eventually designating the location a historic site in December 2000. Reimagined as the Train Station Pub in 2011, having heritage status means there are some limitations when it comes to renovation.

This is a local watering hole with atmosphere, but creating ambiance with vaulted ceilings and beautiful wood floors can create some challenges. Add brick walls (run wires where?) and an open concept bar – creative solutions are required.

We’re thrilled to see and feel the difference audio-video planning and specific infrastructure decisions can make. On the surface you’ll see a beautiful bank of televisions atop the brick (yes that brick) wall behind the bar and a cool digital menu board off to the side – not to mention the other TVs throughout the space. What you don’t see is what makes it really cool: whole system integration and automation through Savant (ideal for both commercial and residential).

Lighting, audio, and video are seamlessly connected through one application that can be managed both on-site and remotely, with specific environmental settings programmed to create just the right mood. From a sports day to comedy night, live music or casual-upscale evening dining, there’s a vibe for that. If you can use a smartphone, you can navigate this. If required, other connectivity with Savant is possible with features that integrate with energy solutions (like solar), HVAC, and more.

Thanks to Dave, Rhonda, April, and the entire team for trusting us to help create a great environment for your customers. We’re grateful you chose us and we appreciate your commitment to investing in the community.

We’re not done yet – there’s more audio to come at Train, and sibling location Mid-Town Station is patiently waiting its turn. Stay tuned.
